ねむＯo。(_ _))ヽ(^‥^=)~

The ヽ wedged between the two faces is the katakana iteration mark, and it touches the )) on one side and the cat's ( on the other with no gap at all, so it reads as the cat's arm already reaching its neighbor. That neighbor, (_ _)), has nothing but two low lines for eyes and no mouth, and its doubled closing bracket can be read as a head wobbling, either because the cat is shaking it or because it keeps nodding off on its own. The eyes alone tell you who is who: the cat looks on with a chipper ^ ^ while the other face has sunk to _ _. Out front, the hiragana ねむ is the start of nemui, Japanese for sleepy, and between it and the face sit three round characters of different kinds, a fullwidth capital Ｏ, a lowercase o and the ideographic full stop 。, like sleepy breath floating off in bubbles. When it was posted on X, the line that followed was 寝ちゃだめニャ, roughly “no falling asleep, nya.”
