Each eye `◔` has only the upper right quarter of the circle blacked in, so both pupils sit up and to the right in a sideways glance. Outside them, `◜` and `◝` are arcs cut from the top half of a circle and read as raised brows. The small `。` in the middle is a nose. At the right end, `☚` is a hand pointing left, so what it indicates is the face itself and whatever stands to its left, that is, the thing just said.
